The Creation of Hope, One Kit at a Time

In addition to financial giving, one of the greatest ways to provide relief after a disaster is to by creating a disaster relief kit. Disaster relief kits are practical, tangible gifts of hope to those in need and can be created by individuals, families or other groups.

Assembly instructions for several relief supply kits are listed on the United Methodist Committee on Relief website. Completed kits will be sent to those in need all over the world:

Health Kits (most needed currently)
School Kits (most needed currently)
Cleaning Buckets (primarily used in the U.S. after storms)
Bedding Kits
Sewing Kits
Birthing Kits (at capacity currently)
Layette Kits

It is wonderful to know that we can help in this very tangible way through making and seeing out the relief supply kits and buckets. These kits are shipped to two different distribution supply depots in the United States and then sent out from there.

While it is tempting to donate clothing, the rapid influx of donated clothing can pile up quickly and hinder relief efforts. Therefore, we suggest that you stick to these four ways to give:

1.    Financial Giving
2.    Disaster Relief Kits
3.    Local Early Response Team (ERT) Volunteering
4.    Pray
