Working to Ensure That All People Have Access to the Food They Need
Alleviating Hunger
at Home and Globally
We believe that our Creator has provided our planet with the natural resources to feed all the people who live on it. We’re pursuing systemic changes to ensure the equitable distribution of resources, and in times of crisis we are offering relief to those who suffer.

Together we’re working to create a world free from hunger.

SEEKING EQUITY FOR ALL

If there’s enough food on our planet to feed everyone, why are over 840 million people undernourished? We believe that, on a planet rich with resources, combating hunger is a matter of equitable distribution. People who don’t have “enough” are forced to make difficult decisions everyday: choosing needed medicine over food, and food over education. Most of those trapped in a vicious cycle of poverty never gain the traction to free themselves from poverty.

HONORING THE MOST VULNERABLE

Did you know the oranges you buy at the grocery store have often traveled from as far as Peru or South Africa, where they may have been harvested by people in poverty? Tragically, most of the world’s hungry are those who produce food for a living. In Africa, 60 percent of the population earns less than US$1 a day. We’re committed to fighting hunger in partnership with and on behalf of the planet’s most vulnerable people.

“Because of underemployment and low paying jobs, ‘working poor’ families may be struggling with more than one minimum wage job and still not making ends meet.”

IMPLEMENTING LIFEGIVING SOLUTIONS

First Church of Seattle shares breakfast every Sunday morning with as many as five-hundred folks in their urban community who are hungry. Other volunteers, like you, are gleaning food from local farmers’ fields and crops. We’re also partnering with agencies promoting urban gardening in the greater Omaha area and are encouraging giving that empowers people to escape the grip of poverty. We’re working together to make sure everyone has enough.

Working Together to Create a World Free From Hunger

What if we opened eyes to the injustice of a hungry world? Could it change how the problem is seen? What if we joined hands together? Could it change the lives of millions? As United Methodists, we believe it could. That’s why we’re working together to create a world free from hunger.

OPEN HEARTS

To the United Methodist Church, hunger statistics are more than numbers. As we share the resources of the One who called himself the Bread of Life, people are spiritually nourished and hearts are changed.
OPEN MINDS

We know there’s no simple solution to our planet’s malnutrition epidemic. That’s why we’re tackling it from every angle: feeding individuals and equipping communities, engaging nearby and abroad, meeting needs and advocating for justice.
OPEN DOORS

We’re serving those who suffer from hunger overseas, but we’re also doing it right where we live. We’ve opened our pantries and our churches to welcome those who are hungry.

TOGETHER WE BELIEVE WE CAN END HUNGER

We don’t think hunger is unconquerable on a planet that has enough food. If you’re concerned about the challenge of local and global hunger, we invite you to join us. From sharing with those in our communities to working toward a more equitable distribution of resources, we’re giving our time and resources to alleviate hunger.
