Rethink Church
Technology for Social Good
Innovative Solutions That Are Empowering People and Improving Living Conditions
Helping People to Thrive
Those of us with unlimited access to technology may have little imagination for its potential to enhance the well-being of millions around the globe. But early warnings about impending weather emergencies, access to educational resources, clean affordable bulbs allowing for evening study are just some of the ways technology strengthens communities. Today, appropriate technology to connect the church globally is transforming lives.
That's Church.

“We are providing clear messages that save lives through channels that reach people where they are.”

REV. GARY HENDERSON, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE GLOBAL HEALTH INITIATIVE

A TOOL TO FIGHT POVERTY

In a world where more than a billion people worldwide lack access to electricity, local community organizers are confident that their communities will have increased opportunity to flourish when they get “on the grid.” These leaders in developing countries realize that limited access to modern communications, and the power to utilize them, contributes to keeping people in poverty. Today, without electricity or affordable broadband, too many families’ opportunities are limited.

DEVELOPING EFFECTIVE SOLUTIONS

Today low-cost, low-power solutions can vastly improve living conditions for people in developing countries by empowering them for lasting change. Technology is changing to offer access to people in areas even where there is no electricity. From solar power options to text messaging software, new solutions are making a sustainable difference. The most successful projects employ cost-efficient technology, are sustainable, are adapted to the local environment and have the buy-in of the local community.

WE’RE MAKING A DIFFERENCE

We’re equipping churches to undertake projects like providing computers to a school or creating a community access center. We’re facilitating relationships and guiding groups through the process of supplying equipment appropriate for a rugged environment. And we believe that even one person can make a difference. When you give a solar light bulb, donate a cell phone charger, offer your old phone or volunteer to provide computer training abroad, you’re improve communities and transform lives.

Equipping People Through Technology That Makes Sense

Today technology is strengthening communities and transforming lives beyond imagination. In response to God’s call we are equipping communities to be a transforming presence in the world. Because we believe that God intends for every person to flourish, we’re empowering people to have access to technology that allows them to get information that they can use to improve their lives and bless their communities.

POSITIONED TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN VULNERABLE COMMUNITIES

Because of its scale and global presence, The United Methodist Church is in a unique position to use technology in ways that few organizations can. Because we’re already invested in vulnerable communities, we’re now able to further help people thrive by providing a means for them to get the kind of information that will allow them to grow and develop.

THAT'S CHURCH.
